San Jose July 2010

Daniel got invited by his professor to go to a NASA Lunar conference in San Jose, California. We left Sunday the 18th after church and headed out to Reno. The road we took to about Winnamucca had hardly anyone on it! If we had run out of gas or something no one would have been there to help us. Luckily we made it safely to I-80. Sunday night we stayed in Reno, Nevada at Circus Circus.

On Monday we ate breakfast in Reno and drove to Sunnyvale, California (10 Minutes East of San Jose). Since it was my 22nd Birthday we went out to eat at Chili's.

On Tuesday we went to the conference...I mostly tried to look like I knew what was going on, then gave up and slept. The food at the conference was amazing though! We ate our breakfasts and lunches there. Tuesday night we went into Downtown San Jose, it was kind of a let down. They have a Japan Town there but the musuem was closed. I did however, get to eat sushi.

On Wednesday I was smarter and took family history stuff to do. Daniel then delivered his 3 minute speech about the research he is doing and was able to make some connections after with other researchers. That night we went to the bay and watch people windsail. We then went to the campus of Stanford University, it was so beautiful!

Thursday checked out of our hotel and went to the conference until about 1pm. We then left and drove straight to Kaysville. We arrived in Kaysville at 1:30am. The next day we went to a Bee's Baseball game with the Garrett's

22nd Birthday

For my 22nd Birthday my dad and I took my sister-in-law Rachel on a horseback trail ride. It was the first time I had been on a horse in 2 years! I enjoyed the ride but as always I found it annoying all the work that has to go into getting the horses ready. Molly and I had a good ride, we just get along really well.

After the horse ride I organized my bedroom at home and got rid of some junk.
We then had a BBQ with Dad, Mom, Jake, Todd, Kari, Daniel, John, Rachel, and me.
It was a good birthday :)

4th of July Weekend

Daniel and I spent the 4th of July weekend in Rockland, Idaho. We stayed with my aunt and uncle, Kris and Tonia. On their property they have the bus that my Great-Grandpa Wiese turned into a touring vehicle, we stayed Friday night and Saturday night in the bus.

The first night I was scared a Coyote was trying to get in the bus but when Daniel made me see what it was for real, it turned out to be one of the many cats on the property.

Cats on the Arbor.

Friday morning we woke up early and ran the Rockland 5K. It was my first 5k Ever! It was really cold though. We then enjoyed the festivities of the 4th of July in Rockland: candy drop from an airplane, pig chase, chicken chase, and food. Jacob, my brother, ended up catching one of the greased pigs!

Saturday afternoon Dan and I watched the world cup while Dad, Erin, Jacob, Tiana, Kris, and Grandpa hauled hay.

In the evening we took the airboat out on the Snake River at Massacre Rocks.

Sunday morning we went to church in American Falls. We then ate lunch at Grandpa and Grandma's and then visited Matt, Sheila, and Laurana before returning home.

RAGNAR June 18th-19th

RAGNAR is a relay race that is run in teams of 12. Each team has 2 vans, 2 drivers, 3 volunteers, and 12 runners. There are about a dozen RAGNAR races across America. This RAGNAR Realy Race is called Wasatch Back. It starts in Logan and goes to Park City after going down to Heber City. It is roughly 188 miles. Dan's Aunt Myndee put together a team to run this year, the team name was: Come What May and Love It! Their team number was 911.

The Subaru decorated for the event

Each team had to have three volunteers so Sarah (Sister-In-Law), Stacey (Alex's girlfriend) and I took a volunteering shift from 2AM to 7AM Friday morning. Our job was to sign in teams from the number 400-600. It was pretty fun and not too hard to do, even though it was pretty cold! There were over 1,000 teams registered for the event. We also got cool volunteer shirts.

Van 1 had a sister-in-law to Myndee, some of Myndee's nieces and a mother and son that Alex knows through rock climbing.

Van 2 in the order of runners was: Melissa (Myndee's friend), Myndee (Dan's Aunt), Mitch (Sarah's Fiance), Justin (Dan's Cousin), Alex (Dan's Cousin), and Dan. Dan's Uncle Randy drove Van 2.

Melissa, Dan, Alex, Myndee, Justin, Mitch

The whole team after the race. Team 911 ran the relay race in 30 hours, 24 minutes, and 6 seconds! They came in 233 out of 658 coed teams!

Primary Lesson

The primary lesson for June 6th was about the 10 Commandments and how the Children of Isreal were disobedient while Moses was gone. Daniel thought up the perfect lesson for this and this is how it played out:
So I always teach the lesson and the students are always asking when Dan is going to teach. This week he came in and said, "Alright I have a great lesson that I am going to teach this week but I have to run home and grab all of my stuff for it. Clint you are going to be the reverence police while I am gone and you are in charge, pretend like you are Aaron Moses' brother" At first the kids were reverent...so I tried to get them a little more hyper by giving them chalk for the chalk board. The best comment given by one of the students while Dan was gone was, "The lesson isn't going to be worth it if it is going to take him this long to get the stuff."
When Dan came back with his backpack the kids were hyper and yelling and such. Dan then totally laid into Clint about why the kids were misbehaving. I thought that Clint was going to cry! (Note: Clint is the most hyper student in our class). Dan then told the kids that since they weren't reverent while he was gone they couldn't do the fun lesson and he would have to go back and grab the binder to teach out of.
When he came back the second time Clint kept saying, "Let's just do the fun lesson instead."
One of the younger girls that was in our class because their teacher was gone said, "He chose Clint to be the reverent police because he wouldn't keep us reverent."
Dan then explained to the kids the story about Moses and the 10 Commandments and how the Isrealites were when he was gone. :)

Get A New Car: Check / Sell The Old Car: Check

That's right we finally got a new car. Daniel had been thinking about it for a while, but after a hot drive down to Bluffdale and Kaysville for Mother's Day he decided that it was time to get a vehicle with air conditioning. We both researched cars for a couple of weeks and had narrowed what we wanted down to 3: Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3 Hatchback, and Subaru Impreza Hatchback. After test driving a Corolla and a Subaru we decided we like the Subaru better. We then looked at what Dealerships down in Salt Lake had. In the end we ended up with a 2006
Black Subaru Impreza.
Tuesday night we put an ad on KSL.com for our truck, that site works! We got 4 calls within 24 hours. We were lucky to only have 2 vehicles for one hour. A guy drove up from Castledale to buy our truck.
Goodbye truck!
